Beauty Backed by Science

Not only are our clients barraged by miraculous skin care claims, but we as the professionals looking for reliable products to use for treatments are also lured in with the flashy descriptions of products. The seller’s never-ending promises of exceptional results flood our social media feeds that profess you, too, can be wrinkle-free and every single line erased all the way to age 99! Ninety-nine years old might be a tad bit of an exaggeration, but I’m positive you get the point. Why are we sucked in by slick advertising? It feels like snake oil salesmen have made a comeback! In all of this big talk and phenomenal ingredients, how can we find out who is telling the truth?

We at Progressive Esthetics firmly believe there are two simple (doesn’t mean easy) ways to come out on top in this dilemma:

1.     Trust yourself. It may be cliché, but if it sounds too good to be true—you guessed it—it probably is. Open your eyes to the ingredients in the products you consider. Make sure they are backed by reliable research!

2.     Do your homework. The managing director and chief scientist of dermaviduals®, Dr. Hans Lautenschlaeger said, “He who knows nothing must believe anything.”  Due to the varied online content, comparison portals can by riddled with tricks, fakes, randomly compiled lists of criteria, and missing scientific criteria. The most reliable sources are non-partisan databases.

After 28 years in the esthetic industry, our CEO Andrea Oismueller has seen and experienced a lot. She has learned to trust herself because she does homework without ceasing. After discovering the clean and pure Dermaviduals® skin care line in 2017, which is backed by relentless scientific study, we proudly distribute these German products in the USA (with the exception of NY).

Since non-partisan databases are the most valuable tools in doing your homework, we want to share a list here of ways to check the INCI on the products you are considering:

Those who place importance in unfiltered, non-partisan information on skincare products and their ingredients are in the strongest position to make wise choices. Study and evaluate on your own, instead of passing the job onto others. Here’s to trusting yourself and beginning or continuing a lifetime of continuous education.
