FALL OUT FROM FACE MASKS

Protective respiratory masks have become part of our everyday lives. Masks of either synthetic origin or natural cotton are uncomfortable to wear and cause dry and tense skin. In some cases, covering our faces have led to worse problems like insidious contact eczema.

Depending on the specific type of mask, they are designed to impede the spreading of saliva aerosols and droplet infections and also to filter the inhaled air. However, similar to the impact on our feet in athletic shoes or our private parts in tightly fitting clothes, masks rub away our protective barrier lipids. Our skin becomes disordered and aggravated, and TEWL is increased. Loss of lipids combined with 100% air humidity built up under the mask make conditions ideal for microorganisms to flourish. This under the mask storm can lead to inflammatory skin irritations.

What can be done to save face?

Three essentials should be considered:

·      Sensible skin protection

·      Adapted facial cleansing

·      Effective regeneration of the skin in times without the mask

 Sensible skin protection:

Dermaviduals® provides preparations with physiological compositions compatible with the skin barrier. This gives the skin what it needs for regeneration while providing protection. Our lamellar base creams without potentially allergenic preservatives meet the requirement of compatibility and should always be sparsely applied. With dermaviduals® less is more. We offer three base creams and a base gel, all of which can be customized with active agents to obtain optimal results:

1.     DMS® base cream CLASSIC for normal and oily skin

2.     DMS® base cream HIGH CLASSIC for dehydrated and sensitive skin

3.     DMS® base cream HIGH CLASSIC PLUS for dehydrated and devitalized skin

4.     dermaviduals® BASE GEL for combination with active agents

 Adapted facial cleansing:

In contrast to what we have learned as a result of the pandemic, it is preferable to wash the face with plain warm water in the morning and again, using a lamellar, surfactant free cleanser sparingly in the evening to remove daily impurities and make-up.

Effective regeneration of the skin in times without the mask:

Depending on the individual needs, a variety of different components can be added to our creams or base gel, such as:

·      Hamamelis Extract and Green Tea Extract (astringents)

·      Boswellia Nanoparticles (anti-inflammatory)

·      Liposome Concentrate Plus (azelaic acid-containing liposomes effective against anaerobic organisms/anti-inflammatory)

·      Evening Primrose Oil Nanoparticles, Kiwi Seed Oil Nanoparticles (essential fatty acids)

To put all of this together, we have a recommended treatment for skin irritations caused by the fallout from face masks:

1.     Cleanse with warm water in the morning and a gentle cleanser for skin type at bedtime: DMS® Cleansing Milk, Cleansing Gel or Total Cleansing Cream.

2.     Make a serum using the Base Gel 7.5ml size. Add 1ml Hamamelis Extract, 1ml Green Tea Extract, 1ml Kiwi Seed Oil Nanoparticles, and 1ml Boswellia Nanoparticles. Apply before cream sparingly, morning and evening.

3.     Moisturize with a finishing application of the prescribed base cream or Novrithen®. Apply sparingly, morning and evening.

As we deal with the fallout from face masks, make sure your skincare tool box is filled with what you need to get the job done effectively for yourself and your precious clients. With dermaviduals®, you have a powerful resource right at your fingertips.
